Amendment Being Proposed to the RA Law On Seeds on the Agenda of the Parliamentary Hearings
1 / 5

On November 23 the NA Standing Committee on Agriculture and Environment initiated parliamentary hearings to debate in public and professional format the bill “On Amending the RA Law on Seeds”.

The Committee Chairman Martun Grigoryan said that though the draft law submitted by the government before had been approved by the Head Committee for including it in the agendas of the session and four-day sittings, however a number of concerns existed on it. With the purpose of hearing those concerns and finding ways of their elimination the Committee invited deputies, representatives of the Ministry, Regional Council and rural communities, as well as international and public organizations and scientific institutions.

To the conviction of the Minister of Agriculture Sergo Karapetyan, we should liberalize the market of the seeds, which was reflected in the legislative initiative of the government. Martun Grigoryan conveyed to the participants of the hearings the dissatisfaction on the seeds being given from the state from a number of communities and specialists.

During the hearings the opinions on liberalizing the seeds were also different.

Summing up the debates the Committee Chairman said that they had applied to the Government and regional councils on getting detailed information on importing seeds and average harvesting.

Martun Grigoryan expressed hope that in the plenary sitting the debates would be as concerned, as they were during the hearings.
